Alas I wasn't the first to submit the correct answer to the 2600 puzzle. No lifetime subscription for me. So here's how I did it. The puzzle is a picture of Rodin's Thinker with a thought bubble coming out with a datamatrix bar code inside. How did I know what a datamatrix code is? Well, I had known about them before because I used to work in packaging design and you learn a lot about bar codes in that biz. More recently I had written an article for 2600 (to be published Fall 07) about 2D bar codes and did a lot of research on the subject. So I scanned in the code: and cleaned it up in Photoshop. Then I found a website that would decode a datamatrix code that you upload. (Sorry, I don't remember the website -- hunt around on Google for awhile and you'll find it.) And this is the result: Of course the phonetic representation of letters and numbers is a series of Hex digits. I won't insult you by telling you the significance of that string, it was blogged to death a couple of months ago. |

Bluetooth With my $100 iPhone rebate I bought an Apple wireless headset (informally, and somewhat inaccurately known as a "Bluetooth".) Early review: Sound quality is good. Subtle exterior avoids the obnoxious "Borg look" common to wearers of such devices. Initial gripe of unit falling out of ear ameliorated by using two earbud covers rather than one; this has not affected my ability to hear audio. Unit came with not one but two dual chargers that also charge up iPhones/iPods. The easiest and fastest Bluetooth pairing I've ever experienced. One button functionality -- click to answer or hang up, click and hold to put caller 1 on hold and answer caller 2. To sum up: My Apple bluetooth boom boom long time. |

Another excellent Dr. Who I just saw the one with the weeping angels.
But seriously, the writers have a thing for interracial couples. I got nothing against it, but what are they trying to say? Whatever, it was great. |
